Preston Manning is a Scientist

The Harper Conservatives have appointed Preston Manning to the Council of Canadian Academies, a federal science advisory panel whose mandate is to offer an “independent, expert assessment of the science underlying pressing issues and matters of public interest.” We know that Preston Manning is independent because he was the founder of the Reform Party from which the current Conservative Party arose and for whom Harper was his chief policy adviser. We know, too, that Preston Manning is a qualified scientist because he has a degree in Economics from the University of Alberta. And we know that as an evangelical Christian who attends the First Alliance Church in Calgary, his religious beliefs will not affect anything he does as a – ahem – scientist.
