Buskerfest Toronto – The Performers

Posted on August 25, 2014October 17, 2022 by David Barker

This weekend, Toronto hosted Buskerfest. Yonge Street between College and Queen was closed to traffic and became a big stage for street performers and food vendors.

In the gallery below, look for the keys reflected in the keyboard player’s glasses. And check out the eyes of the guy posing as a human canvas; they look like flowers or starbursts. I was particularly delighted to catch an accordion-playing mime – not because I have a thing for accordion-playing mimes, but because I’ve been reading Geoff Dyer’s book, The Ongoing Moment, in which he talks at great length about a tradition amongst photography pioneers. At one time or another, they all seem to have shot blind accordionists. Okay, a mime isn’t the same thing. But maybe it’s related. My accordionist photo is a bit of a self-portrait, too. The accordionist was standing beside a window and I’m there somewhere in the reflection.
