One of the easiest targets for street photography is other photographers. We get so wrapped up in what we’re shooting that we ignore everything that’s going on around us–including the presence of other photographers. Personally, I’m getting bored of shooting other photographers. It’s so predictable. The only thing that makes it interesting is to capture the context or the subject of their shot. What are they thinking? How are they seeing? Can I learn anything from them?
The first is a photographer shooting west on Bloor Street during the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Note his stance. See how he supports the lens with his left hand. That’s how you’re supposed to do it.
Here’s someone shooting east along Bloor St. He stands in the middle of the street by the Louis Vuitton store. I followed him for the same reason I’d go to a Nascar race. I wanted to see something really bad happen. Now that would make a photo!
Finally, here’s a meta meta photo. It’s a photo of a woman taking a photo of her friend who’s stepped a few paces ahead (with camera in right hand) to consider a possible shot. I wonder if someone shot me taking this shot. That would make a meta meta meta photo.
