The ballots have been counted and it’s confirmed: Scotland won’t be leaving the UK any time soon. With that in mind, I thought I’d conclude my Scottish-themed series of posts with photos from London. But with a (backhanded) note of consolation for those who voted “Yes”. Scroll through the rest of the images and you’ll see what I’m getting at.
First up is a photo of a CNN media guy. I think (but can’t remember for sure) I shot this near Piccadilly Circus. CNN. That staple of British media!
Next up is the famous British children’s store on Oxford Street. With a “no” vote, Scotland has assured itself a continuous supply of British culture – think of Dick van Dyke singing Chim-Chim-Cher-ee in that godawful accent of his.
Then, of course, there’s the British museum. Here’s the Great Court, funded thanks to that fine British family, the Westons.
Another of the Weston family’s enterprises is the upscale department store, Selfridges. Watch out, Britain, pretty soon they’ll be selling you hockey sticks.
Scotland assures itself a continuing supply of genuinely British theatre, like that famous musical based on a French novel and adapted from a musical first produced in Paris.
But don’t worry, Scotland. I’m sure there must be something in London that’s owned by the British. How about the Hyde Park Superstore? What’s really super about this superstore is the hyperbole on offer. One day, it’ll be as big as Harrod’s. Speaking of Harrod’s, remind me who owns it?
