Google’s Street View has gone live in Toronto. As I blogged in May, Google’s cars were tearing up the streets of Toronto to capture street level images of … well … of whatever happened to be there. Given that Toronto was embroiled in labour disputes, including a garbage strike, our fair city put on its best face for the cameras. Below is York Mills arena just down the road from my house. The parking lot had been commandeered as a temporary dump site. Once the dump was full, strikers manned a tent to make sure nobody tried to throw more trash onto the heap. The only thing you can’t get from this photo is the stench.
Going live was a little like firing the starter’s pistol for a race—thousands of people scouring the images to see what they could see, find friends in embarrassing poses, uncover incriminating evidence, etc. Me? Here’s all I’ve found so far. Turns out Waldo was on my front lawn all along. Did you know that Waldo has four fingers, just like the Simpsons? Wonder if he’s related to Homer.
