Doug Ford Discovers Book

Posted on July 27, 2011October 17, 2022 by David Barker

Toronto City Councillor, Doug Ford, has found himself in a battle of wits with local area resident, Margaret Atwood, who has mounted considerable opposition to his efforts to close branches of the Toronto Public Libraries. When he first opened his mouth (always a dangerous move on his part), he claimed not to know Atwood. He has since tried to recant, or at least explain away the gaffe. Also looming in the background is the possibility that city council will move to privatize the library system. Ford has suggested that all criticism of planned cuts to municipal services is the work of evil trade unions (and Margaret Atwood). Meanwhile his brother, the mayor, flipped the bird to a mother and her 6-year-old when they told him to stop talking on his cell phone while driving. His Worship admits talking on his cell phone while driving but denies the bird part. If Rob Ford needs an extra finger, he can get one here. I mention these two stories together because, in addition to her writing, Margaret Atwood is known for her bird watching.
