Thought I’d better post an image of the great white dome before it comes down. According to the Toronto Star, the McLaughlin Planetarium is going to be replaced by a cultural complex owned by the University of Toronto and leased to, among other things, a Jewish Museum. Thanks to Mike Harris and his ([neo]conservative) common sense revolution, the site has been dormant for nearly 20 years. So much for efficiency. A couple weeks ago, I captured it in late afternoon light as darker clouds were rolling in to provide some decent contrast. In front of it are the Victorian chimneys of Falconer Hall which is part of U. of T.’s Faculty of Law.
I’m sad that we’ll be losing this iconic building. I had secretly hoped that it would re-open one day so I could revisit my Laser-Floyd years.
