View the inaugural issue of my Poem-a-Month e-newsletter. Okay, it’s not exactly my inaugural issue (seeing as I’ve been doing this for a couple years now), but it’s the first time I’ve sent out a poem-a-month e-newsletter from the nouspique.com domain. And it’s the first time I’ve sent it out in an expanded format, with news from the world of poetry and a monthly featured poet.
In future issues, news and features will lean a bit to the Canadian side of the 49th parallel. It’s not that I have nationalistic tendencies, but Canadian culture deserves a leg up, particularly where it happens along the margins. Let’s be blunt: our current PM, the esteemed Stephen Harper, demonstrates an apathy towards Canadian culture. Maybe apathy is too charitable a word. How about hostility? If it isn’t commercially viable, then it doesn’t have a right to exist. However, I disagree. So do many others.
I guess you might say that, in its own quiet way, my Poem-a-Month e-newsletter is an act of protest. It’s not that poetry springs up in spite of the barren ground; it’s more that poetry isn’t poetry except that it seeks out the barren ground and works to make it more hospitable.
Be sure to subscribe to my mailing list if you’d like good poetry delivered fresh to your in-box at the beginning of each month.
