When I was in high school trying to decide what to do next, my first whim was to apply to the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, but that didn’t seem like a terribly practical thing to do, so I opted for English lit instead. Huh? After years of having to justify the practical uses for an English degree, the people from “Brevity” have given me the perfect practical rationale: sometimes the ability to identify an operative metaphor can be a matter of life and death.
