The Rogers Chinese Lantern Festival is on display at Ontario Place until October 1st, 2006. There were a lot of people, like me for example, who came with cameras to take advantage of an excellent photo opportunity. For best results, here are a few tips:
• This is a low light situation. Use an SLR camera without flash. Only use a flash if you are taking photos of people standing in front of exhibits.
• Set ISO low. It may be tempting to use a setting like 800 or 1600, but this will only make your photos grainy.
• Instead, leave your ISO set at 200 or 400 and manage light by opening your aperture as wide as you can get away with, then playing with shutter speeds.
• Tripod is essential.
• If you are using a digicam, take advantage of the fact that you’re taking photos of a subject that is its own light source. Try turning off your automatic flash to let the lanterns work their magic.
